There are some foods that we eat that cause us no harm but are poisonous to dogs, it’s worth taking note of what they are so that we don’t accidentally throw the dog a piece to eat when we are eating them.

6 Foods That Are Poisonous To Dogs

Chocolate

Theobromine in chocolate is poisonous to dogs, the dark variety contains the most theobromine. Chocolate can cause kidney failure in dogs.

Grapes & Raisins

Never give your dog grapes as they can lead to kidney failure and liver damage or death. Head straight for the vets if your dog ingests one.

Alcohol

Never give dogs alcohol as they are more sensitive to ethanol than we are.

Blue Cheese

There’s a substance called roquefortine C in blue cheeses which can cause muscle tremors and seizures in dogs.

Onions Chives and Garlic

Any of the onion family if eaten can potentially lead to red blood cell damage and anaemia if eaten.

Macadamia nuts

If eaten macadamia nuts can cause vomiting and loss of body movements. Small amounts can be lethal.

It’s important to not leave unsafe food where your dog can easily reach it. Don’t set your food down on a low table and go out of the room if only for a minute, your dog may try to steal the food. Only feed your dog human foods that are safe.
