Recently, Amazon-owned Ring unveiled a brand-new Pet Tag accessory designed to aid in connecting lost dogs with their owners. The Pet Tag is a small circular tag that fastens to your pet’s collar. It features the well-known Ring emblem and the phrase “Always Home” on the front, as well as a QR code on the reverse side.

Lost dog sign

The QR code can be scanned to help locate your dog if they ever get lost. It notifies you when your lost pet’s tag has been scanned and provides information from your pet’s profile, including health issues, to assist in understanding your lost pet’s immediate needs.

If you have opted into the “Contact Me” feature via your pet’s Pet Profile, the person who finds your pet can engage in two-way communication with you to facilitate the return of your pet.

It’s important to note that the Pet Tag lacks GPS capabilities. Instead, it effectively functions as a pet collar that includes your contact information, allowing anyone who finds your pet to get in touch with you. Traditional pet collars, however, could compromise your privacy as they contain a list of your data, whereas the Ring pet tag hides your phone number and other information. Additionally, you can include information that won’t fit on a regular pet collar, such as your pet’s medical history.

The Pet Tag will be available on Ring.com and Amazon starting October 4, 2023.

I’ll update this blog post as I gather more information.
